Radiologist's Description:This intraoperative image of the same feline patient demonstrates longitudinal segments of thick walled small intestine with loss of normal curvilinear mural detail. In this image, the ultrasound probe is in direct contact with the small intestine (arrow). Because the ultrasound probe is placed directly onto a saline bathed portion of small intestine (through a surgical glove filled with gel), no tissue separation between probe and intestine is present in the image. Intraoperative ultrasound allows for precise delineation of intramural changes that are not visible from the surgical perspective.
Definitive Diagnosis: Sx Bx: Severe, segmental, pyogranulomatous mural enteritis wth focal ulceration suggestive of feline infectious peritonitis.
