Canine - Spleen - Splenic Neoplasia

Name: Boomer

Signalment: 7 year old MN Labrador Retriever

Radiologist's Description: The splenic parenchyma is diffusely, mildly hyperechoic and coarse. The hilar capsular margin is saw-toothed to nodular (small arrow). The blood within the hilar vein appears to be increased in echogenicity (long arrow). Conclusions: Echogenic, coarse spleen with capsular irregularities and suspect echogenic venous flow. These findings are consistent with infiltrative pathology and neoplasia is strongly suspected. The venous changes could represent one or more of the following: thromboemboli, agglutinating complexes, or cellular material (i.e. neoplastic emboli).

Definitive Diagnosis: USG FNA: Mast cell neoplasia.
