Radiologist's Description: The urinary bladder wall possesses a uniform thickness. Delineation between all layers is noted and is easiest to discern at the level of the cranial apical region (short arrow). The trigone uniformly, gradually tapers into the urethra, at which point the dorsal bladder wall (long arrow) may be distinguished from the shadowing artifact of the descending colon (wide arrow). This colonic artifact may be distinguished from shadowing bladder calculus since the bladder wall can be followed ventrally to the colon (above the colon on the screen). This bladder wall distinction would not be possible if the shadowing structure were a bladder calculus (see image 62). Occasionally, readily definable small mural protuberances are visible in the dorsal trigonal region (long arrow), representing the ureteral papillae. Power or color flow Doppler can be used to confirm this finding by evidencing the urine flow from the ureters into the bladder.
Definitive Diagnosis: Normal bladder.
