RidgewoodVet.com - The Ridgewood Veterinary Hospitals provide full service veterinary medical and surgical services in Northern New Jersey. Dr. Dean J. Cerf, hospital director, is a pioneer in laser surgery and developed the Ultrasound Guided Endoscopic Laser Ablation (UGELAB) technique for treatment of the canine bladder cancer, transitional cell carcinoma. Dr. Lindquist, of Sonopath.com, significantly enhanced the use of ultrasound in this technique to debulk this dog bladder cancer in a safe and efficacious manner in order to offer dogs a longer healthier life. Dr. Lindquist and Dr. Cerf are helping to further our understanding of the laser energy/tissue interaction properties as determined ultrasonographically. Dr. cerf is a strong proponent of combining multiple medical modalities to better serve his patients. Dr. Cerfs' integration of endoscopic, ultrasonographic, and laser technologies provides just such a medical advantage in the treatment of bladder cancer of dogs and has been used to treat adenocarcinoma of the canine nasal cavity as well as other neoplastic conditions. In addition to the use of diode laser to treat canine transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder and oral melanoma of the dog, Dr. Cerf performs nearly all other surgeries with a carbon dioxide laser which, he believes, provides for negligible bleeding and swelling, significantly less pain and improved healing. Dr. Cerf also employs the use of Class 4 Therapeutic Diode Lasers to aid in the treatment of inflammations, infections and arthritis. |
